An introduction to Mary Matz:

Mary Matz began publishing knitting and crochet patterns in her weekly column Twisted Yarns back in the 1990’s.

Since then, ideas keep flowing and yarn keeps twisting upon her hooks and needles. Fast forward and 30 years later, Twisted Yarns makes its debut on the web! Its sole purpose is to share thoughts, ideas, experiences and patterns related to knitting and crochet. 

An avid knitter (both hand and machine) and crochet artist, Mary offers her audience a wealth of knowledge with a fun-loving “twist” on these fiber arts.  

 

For our October 2025 Workshop

Mary is going to show us how to knit the Madrid Sweater.   

She loves this pattern, because it is flattering to short, medium or tall women, disguises a tummy and/or a generous derrierre. and works well with layering, The primary techniques covered are plaiting (but this is optional), tailored buttonholes, rolled-hemmed edges, faux piping, short rowing, seaming on the machine… and more. The entire sweater can be knit on a flatbed mid-gauge or bulky. machine. (no electronics or ribber required)

To prevent zoom fatigue and give folks a chance to try out the techniques, we decided to limit each day to 3 hours with a later 1 hour follow up.

Discount Non-Member Workshop Fee: $85 (plus $3.58 transaction fee)  You will receive a one-time free membership until Dues are due in May.

Must be enrolled in an accredited fashion college.

Regular Member Workshop Fee: $65 (plus $2.86 transaction fee)

If you are renewing your membership or would like to become a member, you may pay online using your PayPal account or a credit card. If you would prefer to mail a check, please make the check payable to “The Machine Knitters Guild of San Diego” (MKGSD) and email Creusa, our treasurer, at Treasurer@mkgsd.com for her mailing address to send your check.
